Self Portrait

Self portrait project where I draw myself as Samus, I did use a reference image, this is not my original concept and composition.

Jester Mage

A character design and anatomy study. The goal was to make a character that has an interesting back story just based on their appearance.

Shapes

This was a simple shape study using light, and not lines, to define a form.

Tiger Study

This was just a tiger study, I wanted to work on anatomy and color/light. My next step will be doing gesture drawings of tigers in different positions because I want to make sure the things I draw feel like they have movement and weight.

The Smell of Lavender: Revisited

So after doing the first drawing from life and shading the skin mostly from my mind I decided to revisit the same drawing but this time use a picture for reference. Going back into my original painting and fixing all the errors helped me identify the common mistakes I make when trying to draw anatomy. For example, when I draw arms I tend to over emphasize the muscles. I feel like I have a better understanding of anatomy and light after redoing this painting.

The Smell of Lavender

This study was about human anatomy and trying to shade skin realistically. The body is a sketch drawn from life and the skin was shaded partially from life and partially from how I thought the light would act. This drawing has a lot of mistakes, and shows how much I still have to learn about anatomy and the behavior of light. The skin color choices I made are the only thing I think I did alright on, I had to pull colors from the background to make the painting look unified (so the skin has green, purple and pink). The background was me just fooling around with the grass brush, which I never use, and the smudge tool. The texture that was created was what I imagine it would look like if we could see aromas.

Luminescent Deity

In this study I had three things I wanted to practice; Dragon anatomy, character design, and lighting. But the whole project revolved around trying to effectively use contrasting colors. I wanted to make red and green work together in harmony. This was probably a difficult subject for me to try and tackle on my first study, but I think it was fairly successful.
